More and more I'm hearing of people who've been 'prescribed' meditation from their health care practitioners. This is good. And, this is bad.
Good, because there are so many benefits to taking some time (even just 3-5 minutes daily) to wash our mind with some silence and peace. Benefits that include: gaining focus, more concentration, lower stress levels, deeper breathing, more clarity, sense of self, sense of peace...
Bad, because we're not realizing soon enough that our mind needs cleansing on a regular basis. I often make the analogy of brushing our teeth. If I never brushed my teeth before, I wouldn't know what clean teeth would feel like. With most of us brushing daily, imagine if you took a week off from brushing. Did that thought invoke a physical response? Right, yuck. We take time to cleanse our physical world -- our body, our home, the yard, our car -- what about our mind? It's only when we start to cleanse the mind that we begin to experience the freedom of cleanliness in our thoughts.
